Dr. Tanya Murphy is the Director of the Rothman Center for Pediatric Neuropsychiatry. She is a professor at the University of South Florida with appointments in the departments of pediatrics and psychiatry and is the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the USF Department of Pediatrics. She holds the Maurice A. and Thelma P. Rothman Endowed Chair of Developmental Pediatrics. Dr. Murphy has received numerous grants as a PI and Co-PI, and has extensive experience in designing and coordinating studies for pediatric clinical trials, including pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcus (PANDAS), childhood obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tic disorders, anxiety disorders, autism-spectrum disorders, and adult clinical trials of OCD and stuttering. As part of her focus on immunological factors in pediatric OCD and tics, she has participated as a PI in an NIMH-funded R01 prospective study of PANDAS and in both NARSAD and Massachusetts General Hospital funded double-blind, placebo-controlled trials of antibiotic treatment for PANDAS/Pediatric Acute Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS). Furthermore, she has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers and 25 book chapters with many relating to PANDAS/PANS and its neurobiological properties.
